work breakdown structure (WBS) New product development is costly and often difficult to control. Attempts to control it require good project management and the generation of a project plan. It is common to come across project plans that provide little or no value. By understanding and learning from the mistakes behind this situation, simple steps can be taken to ensure that project plans are developed that provide: a trusted and valued prediction of how long a project will take; an accurate picture of the progress of a project; and which give an early warning of task slippage and the impact on project completion.
