Advances in technology have increased the complexity of analogue designs. Progressively shrinking geometries supported on advanced process nodes have introduced parasitic effects, which have not only impacted the functionality of the design, but also exploded design size exponentially. The consequence of these factors is lengthy verification cycles.
As a result, the need for a holistic approach to analogue and mixed signal simulation has become more pressing. This is especially true in low power, low noise designs on 90nm processes and beyond.
A holistic approach to analogue simulation should include: a high performance, high capacity analogue simulation core algorithm with full Spice accuracy; comprehensive silicon proven analysis capability; an integrated analogue design environment; comprehensive foundry and process development kit support; and the ability to take advantage where possible of modern computing power.
